Way too Long of a Pause
Posted on April 12, 2007 under My World.
It's been a while since I wrote something in this log, it wasn't intentional, but I really did not have the time.
Lots of things happened ever since, including this new website design (questions, comments, opinions on the new design are all welcome...). So let's start with all that is visible first.
I'm sure many have noticed the new design and probably a good chunk didn't notice it at all. I have re-evaluated my priorities in terms of this website and discovered I want to play with the latest toys in the sandbox, and some of the older ones might not fit in it anymore. As a result the current design is not backward compatible with anything lower, including, IE6. Yes IE6 still holds a good chunk of the market but hey... The reasons are PNG alpha blending and Ajax. Microsoft finally decided to implement the PNG graphics format properly in IE7 thus making it possible to work with transparencies and shadows across all major browser vendors. Ajax, wasn't so much of a problem in IE6, but IE7 is significantly more "standards friendly" thus allowing the deployment of more "portable" and predictable Ajax code.
Under the hood, many more changes... Well first of all I dropped Ruby on Rails. Cudos to whoever figured out that my previous website wasn't really one website but a hybrid with portions running of RoR and portions running of PHP. Don't get me wrong I loved RoR but it was driving the whole structure thing to the extreme, I mean, I like structure in my life, but not *THAT* much. So i decided it's time to upgrade my patchwork of a PHP framework that I'm using for websites and work on a version 2.0 taking what concepts I liked from RoR. Incidentally this determined me to deploy a new personal site. More details on the framework once it's functionally complete.
That's all I have for now...
